Caption: The 1.5-mile High Line, an abandoned elevated spur built 70 years ago to carry freight to Manhattan's West Side, now covered with high grass, wildflowers and rust, is seen looking south from W. 30th St. between 10th and 11th Aves. Neighbors, civic groups and politicians are pushing to have it developed into an 18-foot-high, 7-acre parkland. It runs from the 34th St. railyards to Gansevoort St. in the Meatpacking District. The line was last used in 1980.
